August, the Month of Answered Prayer
Posted 08/04/2006
As I have pointed out for many years, the calendar of God is revealed in Leviticus 23. This calendar is still active in the spiritual realm. It is different than the Gregorian calendar, which is a solar calendar used by the Gentile nations. Israel has a religious calendar that begins in the spring (March or April), and a civil calendar which begins in the Fall on Rosh Hashanah (Feast of Trumpets). At times, this can seem confusing. It is easy to remember, however, that God begins His decisions for the coming year in the fall.
This is because of the seed planting, harvest and rain cycles in Israel. The religious calendar is centered on the Passover season in the spring, and the Hebrew nation being redeemed from Egypt and beginning their journey back to the Promised Land. This is the season of the barley harvest and the presentation of the first fruits to the Lord at the Temple.
The purpose of beginning the year in the fall months is that the final harvest—the harvest of the grapes—occurs in the fall. It also concludes the harvest seasons and initiates the beginning of breaking the fallow ground, planting new seed, and preparing for the coming rain. Prior to the fall feast occurring in the 7th month, the month of Tishri, is the 29-day month of Elul. During this month, the season of TESHUVAH is initiated.
The month of Elul begins on August 24 this year; and September 23 is the 1st of Tishri. This is the Jewish New Year and the time of Trumpets or Rosh Hashanah. Tishri 1 initiates the 10 days of AWE, in which the gates of heaven are opened to receive your prayers and the full attention of God is on your prayers. This is also believed to be the time when decisions are made for the next 12 months on God’s calendar and fates are sealed for the coming year.
August is an important month because it normally precedes these special seasons of God. In brief, we as believers should understand these times and seasons and should follow the examples set in these ancient patterns revealed to the Hebrew people. This should be a season to get closer to God, to examine your goals and future destiny, to repent, and to plan for the next 12 months.
Because this season deals with repentance, prayer and preparing the soil for the seed and future harvest, I am inviting your participation in these things:
Beginning in August and continuing into September, we will spend 40 days praying for the personal prayer requests which are sent to us during this season.
We are asking you to mix your request with a special seed offering to be planted for a harvest in the coming year.
This principle is revealed in Acts 10:1-4, when Cornelius mixed his prayer and his giving.
I am asking you to use the internet to send us your most urgent prayer request. It will be printed out and laid on a large marble table in front of my desk. Then, use the internet site, if you choose, to mail in your best seedoffering to the ministry, and we will plant it into the soil of ministry to help keep Manna-Fest on the air. We will believe with you that the gates of heaven will be open to your special requests, and that your seed will bring forth a harvest by the end of this year and on into 2007.
Remember, “Faith without works (action) is dead” (James 2:26). In the New Testament, Jesus would often ask a person to perform an act of faith prior to their receiving healing. He commanded, “Stretch out your hand” (Matthew 12:13), “Take up your bed and walk” (John 5:8), “Go, wash in the pool” (John 9:7). Had the individuals not acted on their faith, their miracle would have never occurred.
God not only listens to our prayers, He is also moved by our faith. When we act on what we believe, it is evidence to God that we are activating our belief. This is why we raise our hands during worship, come to an altar to pray, and fill out a giving envelope when preparing a tithe or offering. It is about acting out our faith. When the men carried the sick man on a cot to a house where Jesus was, they tore off the roof. Jesus “saw their faith” (Mark 2:5). The action was a faith action.
During these seasons, send in your personal request. Please keep the information brief and to the point. Send in your best offering to VOE. Just as the “alms and prayer came up before God” for Cornelius, I, my father, and the staff at VOE will set our faith in motion with you, for your prayers and for your financial needs to be more than met in the coming 12 months!
In Covenant with you!
