Instructions for Young Women
The Bible instructs us that the older women should teach the younger women how to follow the Christian lifestyle. Growing up years ago in a traditional Pentecostal church, we were instructed about how we should and should not dress. We have since become far removed from the “legalistic dress codes,” but we need to, one again, have the mature women to instruct the next generation of women with some practical insights about how a Christian female should dress.
I remember a young married woman in Maryland telling me that her husband was battling a lust problem, and had been attending strip clubs. She invited him to Perry’s revival and he came, but he ended up sitting a young lady wearing a mini-skirt. I was very disgusted!
When the young lady raised her hands to worship, she exposed much of her legs to a man sitting behind her who was already struggling to keep his marriage together because of a lust problem. Why should a man leave the world and have to fight the same problem in a worship service?
I have observed other young women in pants so tight it looked like the seams would burst at any moment! Others wear low-cut blouses that expose parts of their body that should not be seen in public. This type of dress may seem stylish in a carnal world that emphasizes exposing as much flesh as is legally possible, but it is not appropriate in the house of God. It should not be appropriate for young women who want to follow a Christian lifestyle.
Someone once said, “Some young women just don’t always know what they are doing.” I don’t believe it. They will stand in front of a mirror before they go out in public! There should be some guidelines for women who attend church, and especially those involved in ministry:
Do not wear tight slacks.
Your skirt should not come above your knees, especially if you will be standing on stage.
Do not wear clothing that reveals your undergarments.
Be sure your blouse or jacket covers the upper portions of your body.
Some might say, “This is tradition and legalism.” No, it is wisdom and discretion! Why should you be responsible for wearing clothes that caused a member of the opposite sex to have lustful thoughts? Plenty of clothing stores have styles that make you look lovely and feminine, and you don’t have to expose your flesh.
Love and prayers,
