What Concerns Me Most About the Recent Election
The recent mid-term elections on November 7 were considered by most political observers to be the most negative and hateful of any in recent memory. The radio and television airwaves were overloaded with specially-targeted commercials filled with negative campaign messages, including, at times, false information and innuendoes meant to harm the opponent.
As a voting American, I was embarrassed at the unprofessional and disrespectful way the two political parties treated one another.
For example, one senator who is now positioned to seize a high-ranking office, called the Vice President of the United States the vulgar epithet, S.O.B. When this information broke on the local news, I immediately told an office associate:
I attempt to teach my children not to use profanity and to respect those who are in authority. Can you imagine a teenager calling his teacher an S.O.B? He would be expelled. If a military person called his commander an S.O.B., he would be disciplined. Yet this man was honored by being voted to a position of greater authority. It shows how low the moral integrity of our nation is.
Opposing politicians verbally and aggressively bashed the Commander in Chief and spoke worse of him than they would the terrorists who plot against our citizens. These individuals are running the country! How can I teach my children to be respectful to others, when those who are in charge of making decision for the nation are treated in disdain and verbally disgraced by their fellow politicians?
Perception of the Terror Groups
My greatest concern, however, was the perception created after the election concluded. Since 9/11, America has been at war with Islamic fanatics who form terrorist cells and prey on innocent people. They are groups of thugs who set out to kill, maim and destroy anyone who disagrees with their religious beliefs.
Their organizations include, but are not limited to, Al-Qaeda, the Taliban, Islamic Jihad, the military wing of Hamas and the military wing of Hezbollah. Prior to the 2004 presidential election, the son of a leading terrorist in Indonesia revealed that the Jihadists in his father’s inner circle were asking Muslims to pray that John Kerry would win the election.
They believed that Kerry would pull American forces out of Afghanistan and Iraq, giving the Jihadist fundamentalists the edge in controlling these countries. When the election went for Bush, the man was asked about his father’s reaction. He said, “My father believes the (Jihadist) group must do all they can while they can as soon as they can because Bush may come after them in a short time.”
My greatest concern with the recent outcome has to do with the perception it created. Within 72 hours after the election, only a few television news commentators were willing to report the reaction among the Islamic fanatics. Those who did, noticed a central theme of perception streaming across the globe from Islamic nation to Islamic nation. Their opinions can be summed up in these four statements:
The election outcome was a statement showing the Americans are against all of the Presidents policies.
The American people are tired of the war and want all Americans out of Arab countries.
The newly-elected leaders are more liberal and will be more passive and yielding to terrorism.
The newly-elected leaders will stop the government from listening in on their (the terrorists) conversations.
The outcome appears to give the perception to Islamic fanatics that America is weak and tired. Thus the terrorist feel they are winning if they can continue to create insurgencies and attacks. It should be pointed out that the leaders of Al-Qaeda have already determined to continue their war on America, even if we pull out of Iraq!
For anyone to think that removing our forces from Afghanistan and Iraq will pacify the terrorist, you are greatly misinformed or deceived. These individuals have certain prophecies and predictions they are attempting to fulfill in order to pave the road to the arrival of the Islamic Mahdi.
This is the 12th Imam the Shiites are looking for and the final great uniter the Sunnis believe is coming soon. According to the Shiite concept, there must be a war between the east and the west. In this war, they prophecy, the west will be defeated and the east will rise to power.
Pulling out of Iraq would be like little David telling the armies of Israel to pull out of the Valley of Elah, in hopes that this will pacify Goliath. The old giant was a Philistine warrior and was looking for a fight. Sooner or later, he would come back, and any peace treaty would not be worth the paper it would be written on.
If the group now in charge of the House of Representatives and the Senate spends the next two years doing what they claim they would do if they took charge, it will be more than higher taxes and more liberal ideas forced on America. It will be the fresh energy birthed in the hearts of terrorists that we should be concerned about.
When they believe America is weak, they will attack again. They are beginning to believe that we are weakening. You should be in prayer but also brace yourself.
And this is my prophetic observation.
